Energy Performance Certificate

An Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) is required for all homes whenever built which are to be rented or sold. The certificate records how energy efficient a building is and provides a rating in bands A to G. These bandings are similar to the labels now provided with domestic appliances such as refrigerators and washing machines. The EPC is produced using standard methods and assumptions about energy usage so that the energy efficiency of one building can easily be compared with another building of the same type. An EPC is accompanied by a recommendation report that lists cost effective and other measures to improve the energy rating. An EPC is produced by an accredited Domestic Energy Assessor or a qualified Home Inspector.
